I was curious to here from you full time detailers. Do you have specific detailers insurance or does your business just have a general rider that covers potential problems with car owner claims. The more I work on vehicles, even just part time, makes me wonder if I shouldn't go and bite the bullet and get an insurance policy. I really don't want to have somebody sue me claiming I ruined there $10K paint job and have to pay out of pocket etc.
Thanks in advance for all your input.

I'll find out a bit about the insurance side of this on Sunday night and report back. My Dad is an expert commercial property casualty guy that handles multi-million dollar companys. He can give me the goods on this almost off the cuff.
I'll invite him to check out this thread on his own.
KEEP ONE THING IN MIND>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> All advice given or taken is the responsibility of you and your agent; not my Dad. All states and laws differ. All advice is to be considered general in nature and all responsibility falls on the reader, not the advisor. Take and use all information at your own risk.

Insurance for detailers is tricky because so many companies have dropped their policies for that type of work. I have called dozens of companies and none carry it and only a couple were willing to write a policy.
The one thing you want to make sure of when getting a policy is to be totally honest with your agent, telling him or her exactly what you will be doing. One company wanted to insure me but not while in a clients car. In other words I could wash and details cars and be insured BUT if I drove the car I would not be covered. Now I could have went with them because it was super cheap but it didn't cover me for what I really needed, which was coverage while driving their cars.
Good luck with your search,
Anthony

I use Travelers for my business insurance. I know I have garage keepers on mine, but I also have coverage for pick-up and deliver service to my winter time location. Through the warmer months though, I'm mobile. The insurance covers my truck, trailer, and everything else.

Yeap!!! Anthonys right! w are in MI and will be doing a lot of wholesale/retail work. High-end as well (exotics-collectibles), so be up front with agent, because you may find that you were not covered for something you assumed you were and that can be costly. Also if you haven't had a business prior, it will be difficult to get a low premium untill after (6) months. We have one client that has a collect. cars that RM auctions pick up on a regular basis. Are issurance coverage will not only be garage keepers( will be leaving cars over night) but general liability, contents(fire/flood).these coverages are also included transporting cars to and from dealerships unless they plan on deliverying to us, that as well maybe a option!
