Just saw this on their site today. Do you guys think it's better to go with a traditional style spray gun or this? It appears you can screw on your own bottle.

I'd go for the <$20 that Ron uses if you are gonna use a compressor or for $69 get the self sufficient one I use. $49 is just rediculous for that gun when you still have to buy a compressor and hose and extension cord to use it. Mine just plugs into power, no air hose or compressor and they have them on Ebay Buy It Now priced at like $34-39 bucks. Also, I tried OB at 2:1 on the Tundra instead of 1:1 and I actually like it better, seems to level itself a little quicker. That means saves me more money, yippie!

That's what I figured Chris. I was planning on just going with the same setup Ron has. Sometimes AG makes really makes me scratch my head.

Well, they're probably not overpriced compared to other retail sellers. I was pricing them at Lowe's b4 I bought the Wagner and they ranged from $39-$59. The thing is we're not spraying paint, so they don't have to be top of the line, nor do they have to be disassembled and cleaned after each use. The one Ron has is gravity fed and if you could hang it up for storage you could keep product in it all the time. I bought two Wagners cause I got a good deal on ebay, I'll ship it to you to try if you want. It'll fit in a $5 flat rate box so it's no biggie unless you are sure about the air gun.

Thanks for the offer Chris, I really appreciate it. But, I think I'm just going to save up for the AC fed gun. I've been wanting an AC for a while to help with other tasks. Thanks again!

That gun advertised by AG, sorry to say, doesn't work well at all. It's what I used the first time I tried OB some years ago and I hated it. It will work but there are better options out there. I'm sure it will work just fine for some but in my personal experience I did not care for it at all.

Thanks for the info Anthony! Like I said, I really wasn't interested in buying it, just curious as to what others thought. When I saw the price on it, I had my doubts.

For this gun to work you need a lot of air. I think people will be unhappy with this.

This Forum is AWESOME. How much money are we saving by not buying crap and having to return it. Being able to ask people you trust about stuff before dropping the coin is killer.

Hey, why is that called "Optimum Spray Gun" and is under the Optimum section instead of like detailing equipt? Is this gun endorsed by Dr. G? Just curious...
Anthony Orosco
I believe Dr. G carries this gun but doesn't endorse it as the "best" gun of choice. It's a definite improvement over the previous gun we first used but again there are better choices out there, as you've discovered.

I would like to know also. I havent really looked into spray guns and im thinking maybe I should. What is the ideal spray gun for detailing? I have about 30 sprayguns available to me through some of my distributors but just browsing through them quickly I didnt see anything geared towards detailing use as far as ease of use and set up. I think this is an area where I need to educate myself.

Chris do you still use the Wagner sprayer for OB? Besides tires is OB good for anything else?

Well, I still use it but I've really gotten to like TOTL Best Dressed in it over the OB. I use the sprayer for OID, OCW, APC, and anything else I can think of. I really love the Wagner. I use it anywhere I need a very even application. I can shoot 10:1 APC on a door panel w/o getting it on glass and I never get those random spots on leather like with trigger sprayers. The tires and wells are a given for speed and even-ness. The Wagner has quick change tanks that double as storage for the chemical unlike the cups on the Air Comp guns. I got the stuff pretty cheap from Empowered Equiptment on Ebay.

The tank and the spray nozzle come together and if you keep a dedicated set for each chemical like I do, you never have to clean the gun.

Same, did a search for Empowered Equipment and they didn't have that model for sale.

Did however find that you can get a full kit for $69 Shipped. Nice to have a machine that shoots all those chemicals.

the gun for $57

One Quart Cup and Nozzle for $19, but when I bought mine you could get 2 cup, 2 nozzles, and a wand for $24. I bought 6 total plus the Larger one that came with the unit. Looks like I got a pretty good deal...

You could bid on this one. It has 3 tanks and the turbine and is only up to $45. Lowe's has them too, so if you can find a coupon, that may be an option.

Yeah, I like the look at 1:1 on tires but have used it at 2:1 on wells and engines with good results. Be sure to shake it up well!

This is rather an old thread, but a sprayer similar to the one shown can be found at a lot of places.
I happened to find some at a Family Dollar store for less than $3. Not this brand, but with a brass nozzle that seems to be holding up good. I have been using one of them for several months and it has been very handy.
Mine is the 1.5 quart size. I have also seen similar units at Northern Tool, Big Lots, Central Tractor, and Menard's. They are usually in the lawn & garden section since they seem to be used a lot with lawn chemicals. If they stand up to lawn chemicals, they must be fairly durable.

Thats how I apply APC and Degreaser, but for dressings the air guns are MUCH better (even and less product used).
repare-brise
For applying opti gel we use a HVLP spray gun with a 1.4 nozzle @ 20psi, the brand is not important as most will work(you are not painting with metalics, so for the US harbor freight and in Canada princess auto). We use a similar gun with a 1.0 nozzle for APC application on wheels and engines. The advantages of a spray gun are ease of product placement, an less waste.

Just saw this thread, some 9 mos. after the last reply.

Per Yvan's suggestion, I ventured over to the local Harbor Freight w/a special coupon found in the back of the September, '09 Motor Trend magazine. I bought this spray gun (1.4 mm nozzle.......0.055" depending on the ad you look at) for $9.99 to apply Opti-Bond & other wheel well, under hood, etc. products. With new cups & cleaning, I suspect it will be adequate for a variety of car care products (aside from trying to apply car paint................not for $9.99! unsure.gif ). With a $5 pressure regulator from HF, you have a sprayer for a mere $15.

Check it out. Thanks, Yvan.
